Overview

Chibby is a native macOS email client for Gmail and iCloud. This policy explains what information Chibby accesses, how it is stored, and how it is used.

Chibby is designed to connect directly to email providers you authorize and keep its working mail index on your Mac.

Information Chibby Accesses

When you connect an account, Chibby may access:

  • Your email address and account display information.
  • Mailbox and folder names.
  • Message headers such as sender, recipients, subject, and date.
  • Message bodies and snippets.
  • Attachment metadata such as file names, types, and sizes.
  • Attachment files when you choose to preview, open, or download them.

Chibby accesses this information so it can display, search, sync, compose, reply to, and send email.

Account Credentials

Chibby stores account credentials using macOS Keychain.

For Gmail, Chibby uses Google OAuth. For iCloud, Chibby uses the app-specific password you provide. Chibby does not ask for your main Apple ID password.

Local Storage

Chibby creates a local mail index on your Mac using SQLite. This local database is used for fast browsing, search, mailbox counts, and message rendering.

The local database and attachment cache are stored on your Mac. Chibby does not operate a separate cloud service to store your mailbox.

Network Connections

Chibby connects to:

  • Google services for Gmail OAuth, Gmail sync, and Gmail sending.
  • Apple iCloud mail servers for iCloud IMAP and SMTP.
  • Remote content referenced by email messages when message rendering requires it.

Provider traffic uses standard HTTPS or TLS connections.

Sending Email

When you send or reply to email, Chibby sends the message through the selected email provider, such as Gmail or iCloud.

Attachments

Chibby may download attachments when you preview, open, save, drag, or download them. Attachment files may be cached locally so repeated previews or downloads do not need to fetch the same file again.

Analytics and Tracking

Chibby does not include third-party analytics in the app unless this policy is updated to say otherwise.

Selling Personal Data

Chibby does not sell personal data.

Data Sharing

Chibby does not share your mailbox data with a Chibby-operated cloud service. Your email data is exchanged directly with the email providers you connect.

Data Deletion

You can remove an account from Chibby to delete its local account record and stored credentials. You may also remove the local Chibby data folder from your Mac if you want to clear the local database and cache.

Removing Chibby data from your Mac does not delete messages from Gmail, iCloud, or any other email provider.

Security

  • macOS Keychain for credentials.
  • Standard HTTPS/TLS networking.
  • Local file permissions for the local mail store.

No software can guarantee perfect security, but Chibby is designed to avoid unnecessary cloud storage and to rely on macOS security features where possible.

Children

Chibby is not designed for children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated as Chibby changes. The latest version should be posted on the Chibby website.
